District Numeracy Teacher Coordinator:

The District Numeracy Teacher Coordinator is a member of Innovative Learning Team in a Position of Special Responsibility working under the direction of the Director of Instruction, Innovative Learning or designate. This position works collaboratively with district and school staff in building capacity to support numeracy and sciences in the classroom through leading, organizing and offering professional learning to staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead current and future district initiatives aimed at improving achievement in numeracy grades 4-12 .
Coordinate the development of a district level numeracy assessment at the middle years level.
Work with teachers to prioritize the essential numeracy skills through a district numeracy working group .
Coaching, mentoring, demonstrating, consulting and otherwise assisting classroom teachers and schools in all aspects of numeracy education.
Establishing communities of practice.
Facilitating small group meetings, grade level meetings, and working with individual teachers on numeracy initiatives.
Supporting and collaborating in numeracy data analysis at the district and school levels
Maintaining current knowledge with respect to best numeracy instructional and assessment practices, research in numeracy education, and instructional resources and making this information available to teachers and schools.
Providing and coordinating professional learning opportunities to staff and groups of interested teachers in the area of numeracy.
Supporting schools and families of schools in their school numeracy grants initiatives.
Assisting the Director of Instruction or designate, in the development and implementation of a District Numeracy Plan and aligning numeracy instructional and assessment strategies throughout the district.
Liaising with district staff to support implementation of best practices in numeracy instruction.
Performing other related duties as assigned by the Director of Instruction or designate.
General Duties and Responsibilities of a District Teacher Coordinator:

Facilitate the goals and strategies of the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (FESL) and the District Strategic Plan.
Analyze, lead and present on provincial, school and district data to inform priorities for the work plan, reporting out on progress aligned with FESL.
Work with staff to incorporate First Peoples Principles of Learning.
From an equity leadership lens, work with staff to incorporate inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible learning practices.
Support teachers to implement best practices for learning, including inclusion, Indigenization, and Universal Design for Learning.
Support professional learning for teachers, including in communities of practice.
Facilitate collaborative learning opportunities.
Support schools with professional learning opportunities.
Facilitate family engagement nights to build parent partnerships in learning.
Work with district leaders and school teams on analyzing data and supporting school teams.
Facilitate professional learning sessions both during and after school.
Suggest supportive research-based resources and materials for students and teachers.
Serve as a resource to schools implementing assessments.
Provide support to schools in using formative and summative assessment to move learning forward.
Lead strategically with a focus on improvement and innovation to transform through culturally responsive pedagogies.

Schedule:

Work schedule is full-time from Monday to Friday.

Due to district travel, presentations, meetings, and work commitments, schedule adjustments will arise and will be determined by the Director of Instruction or designate. Travel throughout the district is required.

Minimum academic qualifications/experience:

a) Professional teaching certificate as recognized by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care

b) Master’s in curriculum or a related discipline preferred

c) Exemplary teaching record preferred

d) Extensive training and background in numeracy educatio

e) Sound demonstrated use of formative assessment strategies

f) Exemplary leadership, interpersonal, organizational and consultation skills.

g) Possession of a current valid BC Driver’s License


Reporting structure:

The District Numeracy Teacher Coordinator is accountable to the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment with direct supervision under the District Principal of Innovative Learning Services.
