.286 FTE TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT JUNIOR / SENIOR STUDENT LEARNER SUPPORT

(and / or other courses as determined by the needs of the timetable)

EFFECTIVE: September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026

This position is eligible for the current provincial recruitment and retention allowance (pro-rated) for new certified teachers to SD54.

The successful candidate will:

Be able to develop and implement appropriate individualized educational plans for students with disabilities and diverse needs;
Trained in Level B assessment and testing;
Be able to adapt and modify curriculum and materials to enable students with disabilities and diverse needs to participate meaningfully in the regular classroom;
Have demonstrated success with students with behavioral and motivational challenges.
Foster a student-centered environment in the classroom
Have good interpersonal skills and a history of successful classroom management.
Have successful experience supporting Indigenous students and vulnerable/at-risk students
Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and ability to work as a team member.
Be committed to collaborative planning, consultation, parent conferences and positive home / school / community liaison.
Have knowledge of and commitment to using current assessment strategies, including formative and criterion referenced assessment.
Have a commitment to the directions of the school as outlined in the School Growth Plan
Embed the First Nations Principles of Learning in all subject areas
Be committed to and practice the philosophy of inclusion
Have experience in the use of technology in the classroom.
Be committed to working as a cooperative, collaborative member of a school wide instructional team and attend meetings as required
Be committed to consultation, parent conferences, and positive home/school/community liaison

Houston Secondary School

SALARY: The starting annual salary for full-time teaching position ranges from $62,718 to $110,161, with placement on the range based on length of services and qualification in accordance with the collective agreement. Additionally, $3,035 annually as a Remote & Rural Allowance. (July 1, 2025 Salary adjustments will be implemented once the BCTF/BVTU collective agreement has been finalized and ratified by all parties.)
