The Department for Child Protection is seeking an Aboriginal Family Practitioner to join the Far North office on a full-time ongoing basis.
The role is responsible for:
Developing and supporting referrals for culturally appropriate interventions that foster strengthening of families and the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people.
Assisting in the development and implementation of a holistic culturally based service that provides specialised and innovative services.
Monitoring the problem solving and coping capacities of individuals and assisting in ensuring that Aboriginal families are enhanced through the provision of respectful consultation processes.
Supporting families to connect with community based services which can address their needs.
About You
We are looking for a confident individual with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with people both within government, non-government sector and community to promote positive outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.
To be successful you will have knowledge of child development, counselling, crisis intervention, and working in a statutory environment or community.
You will also have demonstrated experience in problem solving and developing workable solutions.

About the Business
The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.
The Region
The Far North office covers a large area, encompassing Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and the APY lands. It is a diverse office consisting of two Child Protection Teams who work on a FIFO roster of 8 days on, 6 days off. The Far North office has a strong, workplace culture of supporting one another, and maintains good partnerships with other Government and non-Government agencies in town. This collaborative way of working helps the team build strong connections with the community, including the local Aboriginal Communities it serves.

Special Conditions
Essential qualifications: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
Pursuant to Section 56(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act, 1+84 only people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Descent may apply for this role.
