This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $65,148 to $108,588.
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

Working for the Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging
Reporting to the Faculty General Manager and the Academic Department Chair for day-to-day direction, the Academic Department Manager oversees the administrative operations of the Department (Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging (RDI)) at both the University and University Terrace sites. In all facets of this role, the Manager endeavors to integrate and advance the University's commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusivity.
The Academic Department Manager (ADM) is accountable for the management of the department's systems and processes, ensuring effective day-to-day operation of the department. The ADM is accountable for managing people, resources, and processes to support teaching, research, and clinical innovation programs within the departments.
Position Summary
The Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Alberta is looking for a skilled and motivated Academic Department Manager (ADM)to oversee all administrative operations that support groundbreaking research, clinical education, and patient care. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with top faculty and clinicians at one of Canada’s leading academic institutions.
As ADM, you will be a key leader supporting a department that educates future radiologists and researchers, advances health outcomes through innovation, and fosters collaboration between the university and Alberta’s largest healthcare systems. You will lead and coordinate all operational areas of the department—including finance, human resources, faculty recruitment, academic programs, and strategic planning. Your role ensures the department runs smoothly, meets institutional priorities, and supports excellence in education, research, and clinical services.
Duties
Strategic and Operational Leadership
Lead department-wide planning and support integration with Faculty and University priorities.
Partner with the Academic Department Chair to develop and execute long-term plans
Provide data-driven insights to inform decision-making and performance improvement.
Serve as the primary administrative liaison across internal and external stakeholders, including Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services.
Financial Management
Oversee departmental finances with the Finance Partner and Shared Services.
Manage budgets, grants, and special funds with attention to compliance and risk mitigation.
Ensure alignment with University and health system policies.
Monitor and report on financial health, transactions, and analytics.
Human Resources & Faculty Recruitment
Lead the full-cycle recruitment and onboarding process for faculty, locum, and clinical appointments.
Ensure compliance with University and AHS recruitment criteria and immigration processes.
Manage complex appointment types, including Clinical Academic Colleagues and Adjunct Professors.
Support leadership searches and coordinate all recruitment documentation and approvals.
Academic Program Administration
Oversee academic operations across undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical education programs.
Partner with Program Directors and Faculty to ensure quality learner experiences.
Lead program reviews, accreditation activities, and ongoing curriculum support.
Monitor key learner statistics to inform planning and resource allocation.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Management. A combination of education, diplomas, certificates, and experience may be considered.
Significant experience in strategic planning, human resource management, and financial analysis, preferably in a university environment.
7+ years of progressive leadership experience in administration, HR, and finance.
Experience working in complex, unionized environments, preferably in academia or healthcare.
Strong working knowledge of university and healthcare systems, ideally including Alberta Health and AHS.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
A strategic mindset with the ability to lead through complexity and change.
Available to work onsite at the Walter C. Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre, University Terrace, and attend in-person meetings at the University of Alberta main campus as needed.
