POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervise 3-5 Akin accounting staff to ensure all daily financial functions are performed in a timely and accurate manner. Assist with the development and monitoring of agency budgets. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial statements. Assist with preparation and management of external audits. Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manages the daily financial functions and ensures that tasks are performed in an accurate and timely manner
Supervises accounting staff including hiring, training, and performance planning and review
Responsible for the preparation of internal financial statements and other financial reports. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of reports
Assists with the development of the annual operating and capital budgets working in partnership with directors and program managers
Assists with the monitoring of the monthly operating budget: Ensures that expenses are reviewed for appropriateness, proper coding, approvals and supporting documentation
Reviews supporting monthly journals authorizing adjustments as needed. Ensures timely and accurate invoicing of revenue sources and timely proper accrual in the revenue system
Assesses regional accounting needs on ongoing basis and takes necessary steps to ensure that those needs are met
Assists with the preparation of local, state and federal tax returns and payments, ensuring adequate documentation and timely filing
Assists with the preparation and management of annual independent financial and single audit
Develops, implements and maintains accounting procedures and systems in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
Develops and implements internal controls, operating procedures and quality control systems within centralized accounting functions
Maintains a productive work environment through effective communications, proper training and adequate staffing levels. Exercises and enforces confidentiality when dealing with budget, personnel and client-related matters
Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and FASB reporting rules
Knowledge of IRS non-profit filing and reporting requirements
Proficient in using databases is preferred
Proficient in MS Windows, MS Office Suite, and MS Outlook
Strong human relations’ skills with progressively responsible supervisory experience, including hiring, firing, training, performance evaluation, conflict resolution and disciplinary counseling
Strong written communication skills required, including verbal and written
Negotiating skills required
Must have a high degree of confidentiality, be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines, and manage stress effectively
Must have good interpersonal skills with a results-oriented approach in a team environment
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This job is performed in a professional office environment. The following list is representative of the work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:

Ability to work in a confined area
Ability to sit at a computer for an extended period
Must be able travel to other site locations within the state
WORKING REMOTELY:

Working remotely is a benefit of Akin's flexible workplace, but remote work cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Remote work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.
