Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking an Acquisitions Technician for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Library. You will be responsible for acquiring resources for the Library's diverse collection using a variety of methods, including bulk ordering via the EDI protocol. Materials are sourced from a wide range of vendors—traditional, obscure, domestic, and international.

You will centrally manage acquisitions within the Integrated Library System (ILS), including critical accounts payable processes that must accurately map to and integrate with PeopleSoft. Strong stewardship in this role ensures effective management of the Library’s substantial collection budget within the ILS.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing the acquisition of library collection resources, including monographs, ebooks, media, streaming products, and specialized resources (e.g.: scores, maps, artists' books, zines, etc.), from the point of request through verification, ordering, and receiving;
Coordinating the purchasing materials for textbook collection, communicating with Library Services, Collections, and the Book Store;
Procuring resources from a broad variety of vendors, both traditional and obscure, domestic and international, using a variety of currencies and Employing a variety of methods, including title-by-title orders, online orders, and bulk ordering using electronic protocols;
Inputting vendor data and tracking all acquisitions centrally within the Library Services Platform (LSP);
Verifying invoices, resolving billing discrepancies with vendors, and ensuring accurate payment processing in PeopleSoft;
Receipt, payment, and reconciliation of resources obtained through the Library's complex Approval and Demand Driven purchase plans;
Creating vouchers for payment within the LSP and accurately mapping and loading data into Accounts Payable in PeopleSoft;
Reconciling substantial acquisition activity on credit card statements;
Completing and maintaining annual collection budget reports by tracking expenditures by code;
Contributing acquisitions expertise to team projects and participating in policy development;
Performing detailed spreadsheet analyses for complex acquisitions and budget tracking; and
Training staff, providing critical backup to the Collections and Serials Technicians, and directing clerical support in acquisitions.
SKILLS
You will have:

The knowledge and ability to utilize library system acquisition modules;
Experience with payment principles and procedures;
Familiarity with library standards, classification rules and policies;
Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, decision-making, and organizational skills with a commitment to customer service;
Demonstrated initiative and the ability to perform complex tasks quickly; and
The ability to work independently and as part of a team while adapting to a changing work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of a Library Technician Diploma.
Prior experience in Accounts Payable.
Prior experience working in a Collection Support Services area of a Library, specifically fulfilling Acquisitions responsibilities.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
