The Vacancy
We are looking for an Advanced Technician to join our Non-Destructive Testing/ Metrology Team based in Coventry.
Duties And Responsibilities
As an Advanced Technician you will:
• X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) technician to operate metrology grade XCT machine to capture NDT images of internal structures.
• Post process data and analyse images in VGStudioMAX to create actionable information.
• Execute efficient and effective inspection processes to ensure conforming and on-time delivery to our customers.
• Capture customer requirements and provide estimates for inspection duration and lead time.
• Cross train with colleagues to gain or enhance existing dimensional measurement skills including;
• CMM programming (Quindos, Modus, Polyworks).
• GOM structured light scanners (GOM Inspect).
• Leica Laser Trackers AT+60 T-Probe & ATS600 (Polyworks, SpatialAnalyzer).
• Romer scan arms.
• Surface roughness inspection using Alicona & Sensofar machines.
• Maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others in line with MTC Health & Safety procedures.
• Adhering to working processes, route cards and work instructions
• Training colleagues and supervising apprentices in Metrology Lab processes and techniques
• Care of Metrology Lab equipment, including some preventative maintenance
• Supporting manufacturing engineers in creating cost estimates, lead times and route cards
• Contributing to continuous improvement and problem-solving activities
• Supporting various activities required for the running of the Metrology Lab, for example arranging OEM maintenance, calibration for equipment, ordering consumables, supporting installation and commissioning of new equipment etc.
Person Specification
There are a multitude of backgrounds / experience that could lead to a successful job application for this role. Below is a list of skills and experience starting with the most highly desired:
• 1+ years’ experience using X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) scanner and VGStudioMAX post processing software.
• Knowledge and experience using other NDT technologies such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), X-ray Back Scatter (XBS), Ultra Sonic (UT) and related post processing software.
• 4+ years dimensional metrology experience using CMMs, 1st principles inspection, laser trackers, structured light scanner, measurement arm or surface finish equipment such as Sensorfar or Alicona. Examples of desirable dimensional metrology software packages include: Quindos, Polyworks, Modus, SpatialAnalyzer, GOM Inspect, MountainMaps.
Working with GD&T drawings both 2D & 3D. Understanding of coordinate systems and alignment techniques.
