Job Summary:
The Auditor’s Clerk provides a variety of accounting and customer service duties for the Auditor’s Office, such as, assisting in Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Election areas. Under general supervision, the Clerk performs accounting duties in accordance with standard accounting procedures. This position is responsible for maintaining a variety of financial transactions and records, compiling information and preparing reports and/or summaries, and checking and verifying data for completeness and accuracy. Work is often quantitative in nature. Typically uses computerized data management and analysis systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports.
• Process and submit web based financial reports.
• Enter and post invoices into the computer system.
• Scan and file paid invoices and statements.
• Assist with phone calls and real estate inquiries.
• Perform support functions to the County Board of Supervisors.
• Assist in yearly audit preparation.
• Assist as needed and assigned in Payroll, Budgeting, and Elections.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
• Performs all other related duties as established and reasonably directed by the County Auditor.
Requirements: High School diploma or GED with accounting/customer service experience or any equivalent education and experience.
Skills and Ability:

• Proficiency in computer applications including Word and Excel.

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy required.

• Initiative and commitment to completing tasks in a timely manner.
Skill in:
• Answering telephones, responding to public needs, questions, suggestions and complaints.
• Preparing periodic reports of departmental operations and reports for various agencies and organizations.
• Prioritizing issues and apprising supervisor appropriate issues.
• Sorting, reviewing, coding, completing, distributing, and/or filing routine documents such as invoices, timesheets, and payment vouchers.
• Receiving and processing payments, entering payments into computer, and balancing receipts and payments.
• Analyzing financial documents and determining accuracy.
• Utilizing equipment, including personal computers, spreadsheets, and data base applications, multi-line telephones, copier, fax, and adding machines.
• Communicating in person and in writing.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with county employees, other agencies, and the public.

Physical Environment:
• The duties of this job include physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, standing, reaching, walking, lifting (up to 40 pounds), grasping, talking, hearing/listening, see/observing, and repetitive motions.
• Limited situations require the ability to lift up to 40 pounds wild assisting in the election process of testing, delivering, and maintaining election equipment.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The majority of work is performed in an office setting; and employees may remain in a seated position for extended periods of time.
Work Environment:
• Ability to work under the following conditions:
• Time pressures such as frequent “rush” jobs, urgent deadlines, etc.
• Distractions such as telephone calls and other disturbances.
• Unpleasant social situations such as irate or disturbed individuals.
• Hectic, busy, and sometimes stressful work environment.
• Attending out-of-town training for limited time periods.
• Work long hours for election purposes.
• Work Saturdays during the election process.
