The Vacancy

The Advanced Assembly Technician at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) will play a crucial role in the operation of a new laser processing cell. The successful candidate will work on high-tech manufacturing projects, contributing to the development of innovative products and technologies. This position requires a deep understanding of manufacturing, attention to detail, and the ability to work with sophisticated tools and equipment.

Main Responsibilities:
• Perform complex and precise laser manufacturing tasks.
• Operate cutting edge laser processing machinery to deliver project requirements on time and to specification.
• Follow detailed assembly instructions, blueprints, and technical documentation to ensure high-quality results.
• Operate advanced laser equipment and specialized tools, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
• Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of tools to maintain optimal performance.
• Identify and troubleshoot assembly issues, implementing corrective actions as needed to maintain product integrity.
• Work closely with engineers, designers, and other technicians to solve technical challenges and optimize assembly processes.
• Provide feedback on design and assembly processes to support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of assembly processes, test results, and any deviations from standard procedures.
• Update documentation and work instructions as needed to reflect process improvements or changes.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in assembly and manufacturing processes.
• Mentor and train junior technicians and apprentices, sharing expertise and promoting skill development within the team.
• Stay updated on the latest assembly technologies and techniques through ongoing training and professional development.

Person Specification

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
• Experience in laser [processing or a similar manufacturing discipline.
• Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and instructions.
• Strong hands-on experience with advanced manufacturing tools and equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Certifications in advanced assembly techniques or related areas.
