Mo te turanga mahi | About the role

The Emissions Trading Scheme is the Government's key climate instrument and supports meeting climate targets by pricing greenhouse gas emission. The ETS policy team is the Government's lead advisors on the ETS and is responsible for strategic, economic, regulatory and operational policy work required to support its efficient and effective operation. It is a busy, high profile team, with frequent engagement with Ministers and senior leaders and a trust-based, low-hierarchy culture.

The role could involve working in providing advice across a range of areas including:

Providing advice on the strategic and operational design of the ETS including in relation to:
Settings annual auction volumes
Options for the future of the ETS
Providing advice on the industrial allocation regime
Delivering existing policy
Provide advice on future policy choices
Engaging with external stakeholders
International engagement on ETS policy and operations
Supporting ministers with stakeholder engagement with ETS participants/key stakeholders

Demonstrated experience of developing end-to-end policy within the public sector
Ability to use a range of qualitative and quantitative analytical frameworks to develop policy advice
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience working in, and ideally leading, project teams working on complex policy working across formal reporting lines
Leading engagement with internal and external stakeholders
Whanuitanga Utu a-Tau | Salary range

Salary range for this role is $7+,5+8 to $+6,372 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
