Job description
BIG is hiring an architect/designer with BIM expertise to join its team in London.

BIG is a group of 750-plus architects, engineers, urbanists, inventors, researchers and business minds from all over the world who are based in our Copenhagen, New York, London, Barcelona and Los Angeles offices.

While we are led by a group of expert partners, directors and associates, a flat hierarchy and collaborative spirit are essential to our BIG ecosystem. We are infectiously ambitious and unified by the shared mission to craft the world we want to live in, to give form to our future one project at a time.

We are currently looking for experienced and talented architects/designers to join our London office where, together with 150-plus other BIGsters, you will be responsible for the delivery of projects of varying scale and typology in the UK and Middle East. You will work closely with a vibrant, multidisciplinary team of architectural, urban design and landscape professionals.

Our current staffing needs mean that we are especially interested in hearing from individuals with significant later-stage project experience (RIBA stages 3 to 5, specifically). As such, proficiency with both Revit and Rhino are required in order to be considered for interview.

Join us on our mission if you are an architect/designer who has:
• strong conceptual, design and graphic skills
• experience with technical detailing, construction documentation and construction administration
• ability to resolve technical and design challenges through innovative thinking
• exposure to management and coordination of project stakeholders, local authorities and approving bodies and sub-consultants
• ability to develop design options in collaboration with the design team
• ability to prepare, develop and edit drawings and models as they relate to the project
• experience using Rhino, Revit, AutoCAD, Vray and Adobe Suite
• experience leading on 3D coordination, interoperability and other BIM-specific workflows
• appetite to create positive BIM environments within your project teams
• strong organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• the ability to be proactive, self-motivated and able to take initiative in response to direction from managers
• great interpersonal and communication skills
• a flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working

Required skills and experience:
• professional qualification as an architect or an equivalent overseas qualification
• three to seven years post qualification experience as an architect/designer
• three to five years of professional work experience using Revit as your core
• BIM tool and having conquered editing a wide range of families
• proficiency with Rhino
• knowledge of industry BIM standards and requirements; experience as a BIM lead would be advantageous
• excellent communication skills and fluency in English – spoken and written
• experience with masterplans is a plus

This job description reflects the core activities of the role, although there will be changes in the emphasis of duties as required from time to time. There is a requirement for the post holder to recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work.

Application:

Please upload your CV and portfolio via the ‘apply for job’ button below. Portfolios should be uploaded in single page – A4, portrait and a maximum of 20 pages. We will contact you if your profile matches our recruitment needs.

This is a full-time position based out of BIG’s London office. Working together and collaborating in the same space is integral to our culture, so all our staff are expected to work from the office every day.

Salary will be subject to experience and qualifications. Relevant applicants will be interviewed on an ongoing basis, as we are seeking to fill this vacancy as soon as possible.

Diversity has been part of our DNA since BIG’s foundation. A multitude of cultures and backgrounds creates a new point of reference which leads to amazing insights. At BIG, we value, celebrate and support diversity because it makes our team, work and the built environment better.
