The assistant accountant works closely with management and the senior accountant. The position is responsible for daily bookkeeping functions, inventory control, payroll, month-end, and year-end closing procedures with an emphasis on monthly financial reporting and preparation and filing of GST and PST returns.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Manage and participate in administration duties when required.
2. Posting vendor invoices, accounts receivable, payables, and payments.
3. Manage inventory for month end accuracy.
4. Prepare payroll, calculate, and remit payroll withholdings.
5. Assist employees with payroll questions.
6. Ensure accuracy of all postings.
7. Suggest accounting efficiencies.
8. Prepare month-end and year-end closing procedures.
+. Prepare the monthly and annual financial statements.
10.Lead and coordinate annual financial statement sign-off with external accountants and internal management.
11.Implement and maintain financial reporting procedures to comply with internal and external reporting deadlines and requirements.
12. Perform continuous assessments of the month-end close process to reduce the timing required to close the financial period.
13. Ability to multi-task and balance multiple priorities, demands, and functions.
14. Ability to manage personal time and team’s time.
Required Qualification:
1. Relevant bookkeeping experience and certification
2. CPA Designation (an asset but not required)
3. Five years experience within the manufacturing/inventory/retail industry is preferred
Required Skills:
1. Thorough knowledge of APSE
2. Solid communication, technology, organizational and analytical skills
3. Knowledge of federal and provincial taxes
4. Advanced MS Excel skills
5. Experience with MCS/ Calypso Software would be an asset

Experience:
accounting in the manufacturing/inventory industry: four years (preferred)
License/Certification:
CPA designation or one to two-year certificate or diploma from college or business school.
Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Accurate data entry skills.
Basic accounting/bookkeeping knowledge.
Works well with large volume and fast paced work environment.
Accountability and dependability with strong time management.
BC Driver's License (preferred).
