Ready to lead strategic compliance efforts in protecting the Great Barrier Reef? We are seeking an executive professional to join our team working in the Reef Joint Field Management Program to protect Marine Parks and island National Parks of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. The Program is jointly funded and managed by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
The position leads the Compliance Planning Team of the Field Management Operations Section, staffed by Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. This Team plays an important role in delivering a single coordinated compliance program for the Reef Joint Field Management Program under the Great Barrier Reef Intergovernmental Agreement 2015 between the Australian and Queensland governments.
Key functions of the Team include the application of a risk management approach to compliance, the development of processes and systems to improve compliance management and the application of new technologies to achieve compliance. The Team leads internal and external compliance governance groups and initiatives to ensure effective delivery and continuous improvement of compliance management and delivers Program and Reef Authority reporting.
The Team provides direct and indirect support to Marine Parks and island National Park Inspectors from the Reef Authority, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol, Queensland Police and Indigenous Rangers to deliver in field compliance activities, including aspects related to safety.
The Compliance Planning Team provides high level support and technical advice to the Reef Authority’s Senior Management Team and Executive Management Group and to the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service senior managers and executives.
The current position is ongoing however through this process may create a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 18 months.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership, coordination, supervision, and budget oversight of the Compliance Planning Team, which comprises four functional areas – compliance governance, compliance risk management, compliance technology, and compliance projects.
Lead and continually improve the compliance risk management framework, governance arrangements, and compliance strategies of the Reef Joint Field Management’s compliance program.
Manage the quarterly Compliance Management Group meeting, the annual Compliance POD workshop, the delivery of the Compliance Quarterly Report, and contribute to strategic and operational planning for the Reef Joint Field Management Program and Reef Authority.
Drive innovation, including the implementation of technologies, to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of compliance activities in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.
Undertake the role of project owner in the delivery of projects for innovation in compliance management for the GBRWHA, including technology-based solutions and advancements for compliance.
