About the team
The position is in the Risk and Integrity Culture Section. The team is responsible for building a positive risk and integrity culture across the department. Our work supports the Secretary to have an appropriate system of risk oversight and internal controls for the management of the department. We also undertake activities to promote and support a ‘speak up’ culture in the department.

An experienced risk practitioner with proven technical expertise
Strong written and verbal communications skills

Sound judgement and a strong research, analysis and problem solving background
Organised and able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to see projects through to completion is essential

Able to manage continuous improvement processes
Adaptable and able to manage change
Experienced in managing staff (not essential, but preferred)
Knowledge of climate risk management in a government context or transferrable skills (desired, not essential)

What you will do
This role is dedicated to managing the Climate Risk and Opportunity Management Program (CROMP). The role requires the ability to effectively prioritise tasks to deliver climate risk analysis and briefing material in a timely manner. You will need to demonstrate an ability to negotiate persuasively and facilitate/lead climate risk conversations with stakeholders to meet strategic business objectives.
The position will be driving the implementation and increasing maturity of the CROMP. This includes embedding climate risk within established Enterprise Risk reporting, completing entity wide climate risk assessments, coordinating CROMP and APS Net Zero disclosure requirements, and building climate risk capability in the department. Concurrently, you will be supporting the organisation with day-to-day risk management queries and processes. Being a self-starter, you will help to develop and implement departmental risk resources, training and planning tools and contribute to the uplift of risk culture in the department.
You will also be required to undertake training in the Climate Risk field.
Key tasks for this position include:
Prepare or edit briefs/risk products for the department’s Executive Board and Sub Committees.
Provide advice and assistance to stakeholders on climate risk
Modify and tailor whole of government climate risk guidance processes and tools to be fit for the department
Develop and deliver internal climate risk training and climate risk capability uplift
Stakeholder negotiation and coordination with different groups across the department to deliver on CROMP reporting requirements
Conduct the entity wide climate risk assessment
Management/mentoring of staff may be required, however there are currently no direct reports for this position.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Notes
This recruitment process is being used to fill one ongoing EL1 position. A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
