Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships (QPWS&P) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Principal Ranger to provide high-level support and coordination of operational programs within the Northern Region. This role is crucial for delivering outcomes in estate management, including fire, pest, asset, and visitor management. Ensuring the optimum use of resources in line with legislative requirements and business plans, the Assistant Principal Ranger will play a pivotal part in the stewardship of Queensland's natural reserves.
Key Focus Areas
Estate Management Planning: You'll manage the Regional Planning team to enact the Values-Based Planning Framework, ensuring protected areas within Northern Region are effectively managed and planning documents are thoroughly reviewed. Estate Management: Join the Technical Support Team and engage in the administration of permits, land dealings, and development agreements to ensure the QPWS Estate is managed with foresight and precision. Your work will also contribute to the resolution of land tenure concerning Protected Areas. Public Contact: Manage the Public Contact team to deliver top-tier visitor information and resources, enhancing visitor experiences and park awareness. Springvale Station Nature Refuge: Oversee the management of the Springvale Station Nature Refuge, ensuring the delivery of the annual work program by a skilled team of Rangers.
Responsibilities
Lead and plan annual operational work schedules within your region, taking into account fire management, pest control, capital works, and visitor management programs. Initiate systems and procedures to support effective management of protected areas. Proactively develop relationships with a wide array of stakeholders for collaborative and effective management of QPWS regions. Apply sound decision-making processes to natural resource and environmental management applications. Have a hands-on approach to prepare and coordinate briefings, reports, and procedural documents. What We're Looking For: An applicant with a comprehensive understanding of estate management and the natural and cultural values that define Queensland's park systems. You should be able to craft project plans, manage resource logistics, and foster positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are crucial, as is knowledge of conservation legislation and principles.
This role is centred in Cairns, with travel to diverse locations and potential overnight stays. As the Assistant Principal Ranger, you contribute substantially to the mission of QPWS&P, promoting equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion while delivering critical operational outcomes.
