Brief Description of Duties: The Biology Program is part of the Division of Sciences and Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). It is one of the most vibrant programs at UDC offering undergraduate and graduate students an array of opportunities in research and experiential learning. The Master’s Degree Program in Cancer Biology, Prevention and Control, is a signature program which partners with Georgetown University to give students a diverse and rich research experience. Overall, the Biology Program exemplifies experiential learning and embodies the belief that the role of faculty is that of mentor and coach who customizes curricula that are generally research-based, flexible and relevant to the needs of students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching some combination of introductory courses and upper-level biology courses;
Developing new courses and programs based on current trends and student career interests;
Conducting research activities in their specified area of expertise and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals;
Advising undergraduate and master’s level students;
Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as they conduct research;
Contributing to advancement of the program, department, college and UDC through research, academic development, and grant acquisition;
Collaborating with colleagues within and across disciplines to help achieve the mission and goals of the Biology Program, the Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, and UDC.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Earned doctorate in Biology or related discipline from an accredited institution;
Three to five years of post-doctoral research experience;
Participation in professional conferences and associations and willingness to engage students in such activities;
Ability to teach core and concentration undergraduate courses in biology;
Effective and appropriate use of instructional technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of five years of research and teaching experience in a post-secondary/higher education setting;
Demonstrated innovative approach to teaching and a willingness to continuously update teaching and learning strategies with new advancements in technology;
Mentored students conducting undergraduate or graduate research and presenting their research at national conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals;
Knowledge of current national initiatives, changes and emerging trends in STEM education;
Evidence of having secured research funding from private, Federal or state sources.

This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.
