About the Role:
This role is part of Curtin's AssessAbility Services team and is based at the Bentley campus. The person in this position will serve as a Subject Matter Expert in assistive technologies, focusing on educational tools and learning strategies designed to help students overcome disability-related barriers in academic settings. They will meet individually with students who need assistive technological support or targeted intervention strategies as outlined in their Curtin Access Plan. Additionally, the role includes delivering both in-person and online training to raise disability awareness and provide accessibility training to staff throughout the year, including during induction sessions.
Your responsibilities will include:
Conduct specialist assessments of students’ assistive technology needs based on Curtin Access Plans and medical documentation.
Collaborate with AccessAbility Services, academic staff, and relevant stakeholders to implement recommended assistive technologies.
Develop and deliver Assistive Technology workshops, tools, and small-group sessions to support students’ academic success.
Train students and staff in the use of assistive technologies and equipment through on-campus support.
Evaluate and recommend assistive software and equipment upgrades, ensuring accessibility and usability.
Manage the Equity Room operations and coordinate ergonomic equipment loans for students.
Deliver in-person and online disability awareness and accessibility training to staff, identifying emerging needs and tailoring training accordingly.
Support relevant research projects and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in disability inclusion.
Assist in service planning, identifying priorities, and relevant performance indicators.
Maintain professional registration and knowledge through ongoing development.
Perform other related duties as required and aligned with the scope of the role.
What We Are Looking For:
Considerable knowledge and professional experience of disability and medical conditions, their management and functional implications.
Experience performing assistive technology assessments for persons with disabilities, identifying technology, and facilitating learning through instruction
Previous experience with selecting and using assistive technology to support students in completing academic work that complements the students’ unique learning needs and their learning strategy plan
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage others and present information clearly and professionally.
Role Requirements:
As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check
