Job Description

Company Description

Signet Controls is a premier provider of open Building Automation Solutions for the Built Environment. With a customer-centric approach, Signet Controls delivers innovative, efficient, and tailored solutions through its experienced team and esteemed partners. The company's mission is to exceed client expectations by providing comprehensive solutions and exceptional value.

Role Description

Signet Controls is hiring an experienced BAS Controls Technician to program, commission, and service open-protocol building automation systems across North Los Angeles & Central Coast of California. You’ll own projects from contract award through commissioning and closeout — managing scope, schedule, budget, and customer relationships across hospitals, universities, military installations, and commercial facilities.

We're an independent integrator with 700+ completed projects and a 20+ year track record. That independence means we work across multiple platforms instead of pushing one proprietary ecosystem - and it means our technicians build broader, more durable careers.

Role Tasks / Activities
• Own the Full Project Lifecycle - from kickoff and submittals through installation, programming, commissioning, and turnover. The project is yours, start to finish.
• Drive Schedule and Budget - develop and manage project plans, track progress against milestones, and address variances before they become problems.
• Orchestrate the Team - coordinate field technicians, subcontractors, and internal engineering resources across multiple concurrent projects.
• Be the Client’s Main Contact - represent Signet to general contractors, mechanical engineers, building owners, and facility managers. Your communication sets the tone for every project relationship.
• Be the Technical Expert - review mechanical drawings, sequences of operation, specifications, and control system designs to ensure what’s being installed matches the s.
• Manage the Documentation - submittals, RFIs, change orders, as-builts, closeout package, and project documentation. Accurate records protect the project and the company proposed solutions.
• Stay Connected to the Field - conduct site walks, resolve installation conflicts, verify quality, and keep the work moving.
• Deliver Project Closeouts & Turnovers - drive commissioning and acceptance testing to ensure systems are turned over to spec and the customer walks away confident.
• Have Foresight - identify and manage project risks proactively. Propose solutions, not just flags.
• Help Build the Pipeline — contribute to estimating and proposal efforts for new work as the business grows.
• Support Service Team - handover projects and guide on projects executed and be an internal resource for the service team.

Qualifications
• 5+ years of project management experience in building automation, HVAC controls, or a closely related mechanical/electrical construction discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects ranging from $50K to $2M+ in value.
• Working knowledge of BACnet-based building automation systems.
• Familiarity with DDC control concepts, sequences of operation, and how HVAC systems are designed and commissioned.
• Experience managing subcontractors, field labor, and material procurement on construction job sites.
• Strong command of project financials — budgeting, cost tracking, WIP reporting, and change order management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You’ll be the face of Signet on every project you run.
• Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
• Comfortable working on active job sites.
• Residency or Relocation to Southern California Counties required (Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside or San Bernardino)
• Valid CA driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel across Southern California region.

Bonus
• Direct experience managing Tridium Niagara, Alerton, Distech, or Automated Logic projects.
• PMP, CAPM, or other recognized project management certification.
• Knowledge of California Title 24 energy code and acceptance testing requirements.
• Experience with design-build or design-assist delivery models.
• Prior experience managing projects on government or military installations.
• Estimating and proposal development background — ability to price and scope new work.

Why Signet
• Open systems, better projects - Manage work across Tridium, Alerton, Automated Logic, Distech, and more — not locked into one vendor’s ecosystem. Every project is a chance to deliver the right solution, not just the default one.
• Work that matters - Hospitals, universities, military installations, commercial, industrial. These buildings serve real missions, and you’ll be the person who made sure they were delivered right.
• Real Ownership, Real Authority - You run your projects. Small team, flat structure, direct access to leadership. No layers of bureaucracy between you and the decisions that count.
• A Career, not a Title - High-performing PMs grow into senior project management, operations leadership, and business development roles. We build careers around the people who deliver.
• Proven stability - 700+ completed projects and a deep Southern California customer base built on decades of repeat business and earned trust

Compensation & Benefits
• Pay range: $110k – $160k/year based on experience
• Health, dental, and vision coverage
• 401(k) retirement plan
• Paid time off (vacations), Holidays, & Sick leave
• Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement
• Training and product certification support
• Relocation assistance available
