Architectural Conservancy Ontario’s (ACO) Executive Committee currently seeks a qualified individual to join the ACO Board and to assume the role of Treasurer of the organization.
Architectural Conservancy Ontario (“ACO”) has been involved in preserving Ontario’s architectural and environmental heritage since 1+33 by helping communities and owners preserve buildings and structures of architectural merit and places of natural beauty or interest. The organization strategically uses education and advocacy to encourage the conservation and re-use of structures, cultural heritage districts and landscapes of architectural historic and cultural significance, to inspire and benefit Ontarians. ACO is a registered charitable organization operating through a network of 15 branches and about 1000 members throughout Ontario, linked by a management office. The organization is governed by its Board and Executive Committee.
Treasurer’s Role
The Treasurer acts as a financial advisor to ACO’s Board, President and branch treasurers, with overall responsibility for financial oversight of ACO on behalf of the Executive Committee. Typical duties include chairing the Finance and Audit Committee (FAC) and with the FAC: advising on budget preparation and ongoing financial reporting to the ACO Board of Directors; liaison with the bookkeeper for preparation of financial records; liaison with external auditors on the preparation of the annual financial statements; advising on the financial implications of issues brought before the Executive Committee; reviewing and recommending policies and procedures; monitoring financial controls and verifying remittances and the annual return to the Canada Revenue Agency. These duties, as well as participating in Executive and Finance and Audit Committee and ACO Board meetings, require approximately 5-10 hours per month. There is no remuneration for ACO Board roles.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:
· 3-5 years’ experience working in a financial management role;
· Familiarity with CRA regulations regarding charitable organizations;
· Experience with NFP accounting and Quick Books desirable;
· CPA, CMA, CGA or equivalent financial credential desirable, but not essential;
· NFP Board governance experience desirable, but not essential; and
· Keen interest or involvement with heritage or architecture or culture.
