We are looking for a motivated, customer-focused, and detail-oriented Building Assessment Officer to join our Development Assessment and Certification department. This is a great opportunity to advance your career within our building team and provide quality services to our customers.

As someone eager to learn and grow in our building team, you’ll be instrumental in guiding customers through the intricate process of building assessments. Our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional customer experiences in the assessment, processing, and determination of a diverse range of development applications and building information certificates within our local government area.

Your key responsibilities are:

Assess and determine a high volume of development applications and building information certificates
Provide prompt specialist advice and opinions, to stakeholders, specifically regarding decisions of development applications and building information certificates
Organise facilitation of acceptable outcomes between affected parties and Council regarding development assessment activities
Champion commitment to and passion for customer focus with proven ability to deliver exceptional customer experiences
Manage the preparation of development assessment reports to departmental management, executive and councillors, exercising advanced report writing and proof-reading skills
The position may require:

Out of hours or weekend work
Work across multiple sites
Travel

Specifically, you will have:

Tertiary qualifications, minimum skillset recognised under Australian VET training framework, or equivalent experience, in a relevant discipline such as building surveying, construction, planning, architecture or design.
Proven ability to analyse and interpret building and environmental data using sound problem solving, analysis and evaluation skills to generate solutions
Proven experience and knowledge associated with development cost structures that contribute to minimising applicant costs through efficient processing of applications
Commitment to the consistent delivery of exceptional customer experiences
Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, specifically demonstrating ability to communicate at all levels of Council, external and internal facing customers and stakeholder groups with the ability to articulate and negotiate outcomes in accordance with legislation and policies.
