The Manitoba government is seeking a highly motivated individual to work with the Department of Labour and Immigration as a Building Code Intake Officer. Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Comply with section 5 of Manitoba’s Workplace Safety and Health Act and applicable regulations
Work requires prolonged periods of sitting and screen time (computer work)
Qualifications:
Essential:
Experience performing administrative duties in an office environment, including: data entry, preparing specialized or highly complex documents, reviewing documentation, as well as manual and electronic file maintenance
Experience and proficiency with computers, including a variety of applications, databases, and software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PDF
Ability to maintain accuracy with data entry and attention to detail
Ability to interpret and communicate technical information
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders in a clear, concise and professional manner
Strong written communication skills
Desired:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret engineered drawings, codes and standards, Acts, Regulations, Policies and requirements to determine the acceptance or rejection of permits, licences and inspections
Experience working in a regulatory office environment providing services to the public
Knowledge of the geographical locations of various cities, towns, villages and municipalities of Manitoba to assist in scheduling multiple inspections
Duties:
Reporting to the Office Manager, the Building Code Intake Officer is responsible for intake and permit/application processing to ensure compliance with legislation and technical safety standards. The Officer provides program delivery support to management, inspectors and stakeholders. Inspection and Technical Services delivers technical safety programs to municipalities and industry by enforcing complex safety regulations through permit, engineering reviews, inspection, examination, certification and licensing services. The Intake Officer is responsible for intake and permit/application processing to ensure compliance with legislation and technical safety standards. Provides program delivery support to Management, inspectors and stakeholders.
