The Interim Campus Ministry and Music Coordinator will be responsible for planning, and promoting, and managing a broad spectrum of activities and programs to cultivate a vibrant, holistic community, foster transformational leadership, and nurture student development as part of the Office of Campus Ministry. Reporting to the Director of Mission and Ministry, they will also coordinate the liturgical life of the Campus including: Saturday vigil masses at St. Basil’s Church, Baccalaureate Mass, etc. They shall also create opportunities for professional development in sacred music. They shall serve as the Artistic Director of the St. Michael’s Schola Cantorum. The Interim Campus Ministry and Music Coordinator shall have an appreciation for and support the mission and vision of the University of St. Michael’s College by enhancing the spiritual experience through music on campus to build and sustain an effective and dynamic ministry that integrates students, staff, faculty, and alumni into the broader mission of USMC.

Position Summary

The Interim Campus Ministry and Music Coordinator shall have an appreciation for and support the mission and vision of the University of St. Michael’s College by enhancing the spiritual experience through music on campus to build and sustain an effective and dynamic ministry that integrates students, staff, faculty, and alumni into the broader mission of USMC.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate an atmosphere of Christian hospitality where all feel welcome;
Create and support Catholic, ecumenical, interfaith, spiritual (non-religious), and social justice programming in collaboration with the Campus Ministry Coordinator;
Provide pastoral guidance and support to students, staff, and faculty, including knowing when and how to refer to professional counselling;
Foster collaborative relationships with the University of Toronto Multi-Faith Centre, Newman Centre, TST (Toronto School of Theology), Archdiocese of Toronto, chaplaincies, and other partners;
Maintain membership in professional societies such as the University Campus Chaplains Association, Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry, (Toronto/Ontario Campus Ministry…);
Represent the University at off-campus events related to Campus Ministry;
Contribute to university-wide priorities, plans, and initiatives enhancing equity, diversity, inclusion, justice, and belonging;
Uphold the Canadian Catholic Campus Ministers Code of Ethics.
Create, direct, and support the Campus Ministry Choir.
Rehearse and conduct the St. Michael’s Schola Cantorum.
Create a schedule in advance corresponding to the liturgical and seasonal themes in collaboration with DMM.
Elevate issues of a sensitive and important nature to the DMM in the best interest of the students, faculty, and staff involved.
Create and oversee music curriculum and scores for the choir and St. Michael’s Schola Cantorum.
Manage the finances related to hiring, and remunerating musicians with a determined budget.
Select, train and inspire a choir of volunteers to perform a wide variety of music at celebrations, events and concerts during the academic year such as the Baccalaureate Mass, Alumni Christmas Tea Social, and other events in consultation with DMM.
Plan and manage rehearsals and performances in collaboration with Campus Ministry or Church staff and volunteers.
Communicate regularly with DCM regarding projects and rehearsals.
Act as point of contact for choir members.
Create workshops and resources for parishes and churches on a seasonal basis (Advent and Lent).
Research best practices of similar roles on Catholic Colleges and Universities and propose advancement in collaboration with DCM.
Other duties and responsibilities that may arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree with an academic background in Theology is an asset or must be willing to enroll in a Regis-St. Michael’s Theology program on a part-time basis.
Demonstrated knowledge of the personal and spiritual development of university-aged students.
Practicing Roman Catholic, in good standing, with an active faith life.
4 years of experience in university, young adult, or youth ministry.
Comfortable and proficient with technology, social media and communication
Strong organization, planning, time-management and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexible work hours as evening and weekend presence will be required as necessary.
