Career Counsellor (Remote 4-Month Contract)

Safe Transitions is a non-profit organization providing life-changing support for women and children escaping gender-based violence. By offering affordable transitional housing and holistic services, we empower survivors to rebuild their lives and pursue a sustainable, positive future.
We are looking for a compassionate Career Counsellor to work directly with women who have experienced domestic abuse or human trafficking. You’ll play a key role in helping clients develop skills, build confidence, and secure employment that leads to long-term stability. This is a maternity leave coverage contract.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct one-on-one assessments to understand clients’ skills, work history, and goals, and develop personalized employment plans.
Provide empathetic, career counseling to women fostering a supportive environment that encourages self-discovery and personal growth.
Facilitate job readiness workshops, including resume writing, interview skills, and job search strategies.
Provide ongoing support and coaching to boost clients’ professional communication and workplace confidence.
Build partnerships with employers and agencies to connect clients with job opportunities.
Assist clients through job application processes and offer interview preparation.
Collaborate with support staff to identify and address employment barriers like childcare and transportation.
Advocate for clients, connecting them to resources like financial aid, legal support, and educational programs.
Track client progress, maintain confidential case files, and report on program outcomes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Career Counselling, or related field.
Experience in career counselling, job coaching, or employment support, ideally in a non-profit or gender-based violence setting.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting with reliable internet and a private workspace.
Demonstrated compassion and commitment to supporting clients in rebuilding their lives.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
Expertise in resume writing, interview coaching, and job search strategies.
Organizational skills with experience in case management.
Ability to build trust and handle information confidentially.
Cultural sensitivity and commitment to supporting women from diverse backgrounds.
Familiarity with community resources related to employment and social services.
