Based at Christchurch Outpatients

Nursing Leadership opportunity within the Canterbury Eye Service

About the Role
The Canterbury Eye Service has an exciting leadership opportunity available for a senior nurse to join our cohesive, supportive team and lead the team in our Ophthalmology Outpatients department as their Charge Nurse Manager.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Ophthalmology Outpatient Dept, working in collaboration with the Service Manager and other team leaders.

Your interpersonal and organisational skills will be used to provide sound leadership to the Registered/Enrolled Nurses and Health Care Assistants.

You will have a strong focus on quality patient care and be skilled at allocation of resources to achieve this.

Your ability to work effectively with the Christchurch Outpatients Nurse Manager and Senior Management team to ensure financial and operational objectives are carried out in line with the Health New Zealand vision is imperative to your success in this role.

About the Service
The Ophthalmology Outpatient Dept is a very busy and demanding service that is staffed by a dedicated team of Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists, and Technicians who work closely with our highly skilled and specialised Ophthalmologists to meet the eye health needs of the people of Canterbury.

About You
The Charge Nurse Manager role has a function that is both clinical and operational.

You will have proven leadership ability, a clear focus on patient health, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and are motivated to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will also hold or be working towards an appropriate postgraduate qualification.

Ophthalmic experience, while beneficial, is not as essential as your ability to effectively lead and manage your team.

We are looking for a dynamic, confident, and competent Senior Registered Nurse who wishes to be responsible for supporting and enabling the provision of quality nursing care for the patients and families/whanau within our care.

Key Skills and Experience:
Recent hospital experience with expert clinical nursing knowledge

Familiar with operational, personnel, and financial management
Competent user of Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software
A commitment to postgraduate study either having completed or have commenced the postgraduate pathway
