The office of Senator Carol Brown is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing EOB – Communications and Constituent Officer, based in the Senator’s Hobart Electorate Office, in Tasmania.



The Parliamentarian is seeking an enthusiastic person with strong analytical, communication and organisational skills to join the team as a Communications and Constituent Officer, with the responsibility of providing support and advice on work relating to electorate matters.


The key duties of the position are, but are not limited to:

Preparation of electorate correspondence and communications including management and facilitation of constituent enquiries
Assist with all office administration including reception, mail, couriers, helping constituents, minute/note taking and filing
Building and maintaining relationships with key community stakeholders
Organisation of community and stakeholder events and forums, from conception to completion
Organisation of community outreach events, such as street stalls and doorknocks
Building a team of individuals to support in speaking to community members about Governments initiatives
Provide high quality and strategic advice and analysis on legislative, policy and political issues
Research and write correspondence, articles, speaking points and briefings
Develop and maintain a media and communications plan, including media monitoring, social media and public relations liaison
Work outside of standard business hours and on weekends may be required
Interstate travel may be required
Other duties as required

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

An understanding of Australia’s system of government and parliamentary processes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to meet deadlines
High levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion
Well-developed office IT skills and graphic design experience
Demonstrated exceptional organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure, multi-task, prioritise tasks and problem solve to ensure deadlines are met
Ability to work as part of a small team and independently

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1+84 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23 which include:

A commencing salary between $71,245 and $83,17+ will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
An additional optional allowance (ESA) may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work
Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements)
An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable

An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.



The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
