Community Engagement Manager

  • Category: Event Management Jobs
  • Location: Paraparaumu, Wellington
  • Job Type: Full Time / Part Time
  • Salary: Estimated: $ 20K to 33K
  • Published on: 2025/09/21

The Kāpiti Business Chamber is at an exciting point on our journey—evolving, growing, and stepping into our stride as a Chamber fit for tomorrow.

Are you a passionate connector who is happiest when building relationships and supporting others?

We’re on the hunt for a Community Engagement Manager who enjoys bringing manaakitanga, support, and value to our members and key partners.

In this role, you’ll become a key part of the Chamber’s brand and heartbeat, engaging in conversation, following up on exciting ideas, connecting the dots, and turning those ideas into actionable projects and content.

You’ll be a doer—a meticulous list-ticker who enjoys taking care of the nitty-gritty details. You’ll leverage digital tools to create streamlined processes and effective communications, ensuring our Chamber community stays engaged and informed and that their onboarding process (and everything from there onward) is insightful, friendly, and efficient.

You’re comfortable diving into social media channels or Mailchimp when an urgent shout-out is required. This is a connector role through and through, so your drive for growing our network will be essential as you reassure new members and partners that they’re making the right investment in joining our community. As part of this role you’ll be tasked with a few targets to expand our reach and membership base, so a proactive and energetic approach will be key, alongside an enjoyment for achieving set outcomes.

Above all, you’ll be a people person—bringing fresh energy to our evolving and transforming Chamber on the Kāpiti Coast. If you’re keen to make a meaningful impact and help us create a thriving, well-supported, heard, and connected business community, we’d love to hear from you!

Note that this role is remote but will require you to move about the district and sync up with our wider team and General Manager in person. So how you tackle that will be up to you—with some visibility and forward planning required.

Your primary objectives will be to:

Grow our membership base and ensure our members feel well-informed and valued
Support our General Manager with our key partner engagement and add value to their businesses in return
Support with the systems, processes, and communications that help achieve these first two objectives
Attend Chamber events and be a consistent face of our brand and our community—some evening work is required to attend our monthly networking and business after 5pm events
Your secondary objectives will be to:

Roll your sleeves up and support our Event Manager if required in the lead-up to events
Ensure our website is kept up to date—this is a shared responsibility across the team
Provide a support role for our newsletters and social media
Your weeks will likely look a little bit like this:

A team catch up to sort the woods from the trees and hatch a collective plan for our growth, engagements, and future plans. Our Board and General Manager lead our strategic direction, but you’ll be very much tapped into our grand plans for growth and impact

Leveraging our membership platform/dashboard to engage with existing members, welcome new members, and get out and about in the community to support our value

Engage with our key partners, seek ways to support their content and share it more broadly, connect with them in person and tap into new ideas around how to create value for their investment in the Chamber
Tick off a wee list of support activities to help ensure our Event Manager and General Manager feel well-supported
Tweak a few bits and bobs on the website, suggest a cool resource or two, whip up an event reminder—you know, an ‘I can pick that up’ kind of human

Responding to emails, picking up the phone, keeping good records, and good admin practices to ensure we’re part of a smart and effective ecosystem (note that we have dedicated admin support, but all members of our team have actions they need to undertake to ensure the smooth sailing of our Chamber).
Initially, this role is a part-time contract for six months—with room to grow the role beyond this duration and capacity.
