About the Role:
Seeking a skilled and dynamic Content Writer to contribute to the development and maintenance of a high-traffic government website. This contract position offers the opportunity to apply your writing expertise while ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and engaging for a wide range of users. Key Responsibilities:
Develop, write, and edit content for a government website, ensuring it is up-to-date, engaging, accurate, and accessible.
Collaborate with subject matter experts across various teams to incorporate their insights and ensure the relevance and accuracy of content.
Apply plain language principles to simplify complex information while maintaining necessary context and accuracy.
Review and consolidate web pages to streamline content, improve navigation, and reduce redundancy.
Ensure content aligns with accessibility standards and government style guidelines.
Use content management systems (CMS) to update and publish content.
Technical Skills and Abilities:
Strong writing and editing skills, with a focus on simplifying complex information for diverse audiences.
Experience conducting content audits and implementing recommendations to improve usability and accessibility.
Familiarity with CMS platforms (experience with Squiz Matrix is highly regarded) and digital publishing processes.
A solid understanding of web accessibility principles (WCAG 2.1 AA) and best practices for online content.
Proven ability to create SEO-friendly content and optimise website performance.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in digital tools such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
