Position Title: Financial Controller
Location: Michigan City, IN w/ hybrid flexibility
Reports To: CFO
Department: Finance
Salary: Starting at $150K + bonus + profit sharing
Overview:
My client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting principles, a keen interest in the workings of our business, and a proactive approach to financial management. You will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic insights to support our business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
•Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Conduct thorough financial analysis and present findings to senior management.
• Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
Accounting Operations:
• Oversee all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory requirements.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Develop and maintain financial models for budgeting and forecasting.
• Work closely with department heads to prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
• Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, and analyze variances.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
• Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
• Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
Strategic Financial Planning:
• Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to support business decisions.
• Participate in the development of long-term financial strategies and plans.
• Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies, and regulatory actions.
Relationship Management:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including banks, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
• Collaborate with other departments to understand their needs and provide financial support.
• Ensure clear communication of financial performance and issues to senior management.
Team Leadership:
• Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
• Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
• Manage recruitment, performance evaluation, and professional development of finance staff.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in large ERP accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
