Overview
CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) is a support system which allows police and law enforcement to share information within law enforcement agencies. Reporting to the Court Services and Cells Supervisor, the CPIC Operator - Clerk is responsible for the generation, review, maintenance and verification of all CPIC transactions in compliance with CPIC Advisory, RCMP regulations and departmental policies and procedures. This position requires strong operating knowledge of the CPIC, PRIME and JUSTIN computer systems.

Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Reviews and interprets a variety of legal documents, such as investigative reports, warrants and probation orders to determine if CPIC entry is required.
Accountable for input including adding, modifying and removing CPIC entries for various court documents and confirming requests.
Receives and disseminates information with speed and accuracy within the CPIC system.
Verifies information entered and amends and updates CPIC manuals.
Reviews and audits entries into CPIC for errors or omissions.
Confers with various levels of courts and the judicial system to ensure prompt removal or additions to CPIC system.
Ensures members and staff are advised of new policies, procedures, or changes related to CPIC operations.
Prepares and maintains records and reports related to the work.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Sound knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures used in operating CPIC computer terminal equipment.
Sound knowledge of the rules, regulations and policies governing the work performed.
Sound knowledge of clerical and record keeping methods and procedures and of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
Ability to perform CPIC computer terminal operational and clerical work under general supervision.
Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
Ability to memorize applicable system codes and procedures.
Ability to deal effectively with detachment staff and outside agencies and provide routine information and assistance to same.
Professional telephone manner and the ability to effectively liaise with both internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
Qualifications and Experience:
Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by clerical courses in typing and general office administration.
CPIC terminal operator’s course, PRIME operator’s course
Minimum 1 year of clerical and typing experience is required, preferably in a Police Department OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment and entails long periods of time working at a computer terminal.
