Overview

Job Purpose

The Database administrator is responsible for implementing, testing, maintaining, and controlling the organization’s databases, messaging, caching systems across multiple platforms, technologies, and computing environments.

Responsibilities

This role requires a technology enthusiast with strong technical, organizational, and analytical skills with some exposure to SQL and no-SQL database technologies amongst other technologies needed to support the organizational needs. You will be expected to troubleshoot and resolve problems in production and non-prod environments.

The role covers DBA tasks as well as maintaining and administering the overall infrastructure alongside the Global DBA Team. You will also be responsible for the change and release management process for software developments and implementations.

Responsibilities Include
• Build, configuration of database and non-database environments.
• Ensure the availability while providing day-to-day database support.
• Design, evaluate and optimize database objects in conjunction with the Development / Engineering teams.
• Installation, maintenance, backup, and recovery, and monitoring of databases.
• Follow change management procedures for all database related changes.
• Prepare and maintain documentation of developed procedures and best practices.
• Configuring monitoring and proactively reviewing statistics for errors, capacity, and performance issues.
• Programming, scripting in various languages including shell to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Performance tuning of queries, indexes, stored procedures, and functions, making recommendations regarding enhancements and improvements
• Monitor and analyze system performance (e.g., stress volume), perform cost analysis for users, perform systems testing, performance and tuning. Notify management of findings and

Knowledge And Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of technical knowledge required.
• 2+ years of Database Administration experience supporting one or more database technologies such as Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, or similar technologies.
• Any exposure to Kafka, Redis, ELK or similar technologies will be a plus.
• Good knowledge of Linux / Unix operating systems is required. An exposure of Linux shell and strong programming skill in languages such as Python or Java or C/C++ or Perl or any other language is required preferably in a database context.
• Understanding of system architecture and system administration tasks is a plus.
• The person must have the aptitude to work with application and business data and must have the mind-set, ability to learn/support multiple data platform technologies and also work in a fast-paced business environment.
• Excellent problem solving, issue identification, analytical and technical documentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skill.
• Willing to take on-call rotation including weekend work.

Schedule

This role offers work from home flexibility of one day per week.
