Do you want to work in an environment where you will be responsible for implementing contamination control techniques? If so, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Decontamination Worker to decontaminate contaminated areas and equipment, perform contamination control activities, and assist with facility compliance in support of the WL Radiation Protection program. What will you be doing!
Assisting cleaning and decontaminating areas, buildings, equipment and materials of radioactive contamination through application of either routine or specialized cleaning procedures.
Providing a decontamination service when hazardous contamination levels are suspected or known to exist to support ongoing operational and decommissioning activities.
Assisting fellow RP staff and facility management with the implementation of contamination control techniques to ensure safe working conditions.
Assisting other employees with entry/exit protocols associated with working in radiologically contaminated areas.
Packaging and handling active and non-active hazardous waste materials in accordance with radiation protection procedures.
Ensuring facility compliance to support the Whiteshell Radiation Protection Program.
Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
Education
Grade 12 education or equivalent is required.
Radiation Protection Group 3 and/or Group 2 qualification, or be willing to complete on-site training and qualification.
Experience
Two (2) years’ experience working in a radioactive environment is an asset.
Experience working with established practices and procedures for radiological and industrial safety is an asset.
Decontamination or janitorial work experience is an asset.
Experience using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, and Excel).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must be punctual, dependable, and safety-minded.
Must have the ability to adapt to a changing environment.
Ability to perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6 am.
Must have the physical agility and mobility necessary to perform all aspects of the work, which involves frequent climbing, bending and lifting.
Must be able to wear a respirator and Personal Protective Equipment & Clothing (PPE&C) in hot and cold environments to support decommissioning activities.
Working in an operational and decommissioning environment (i.e. laboratories, workshops, confined spaces, construction, and demolition areas).
