OutSee Limited - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
Location: Cambridge (NB hybrid considered, but not preferred)
Job Type: Full-time
The opportunity
OutSee Limited is a TechBio startup leveraging proprietary computational genomics for drug target discovery & precision medicine. We are seeking a Developer to establish and optimize pipelines for genomics that execute our approach on licensed cloud-based Trusted Research Environments (TREs) and internal infrastructure.
• High-impact role in a cutting-edge TechBio startup with strong growth potential.
• Opportunity to shape and lead scalable cloud-based genomics pipelines in a pioneering research environment.
• Work on novel AI-driven computational approaches for drug target discovery and precision medicine.
• Collaborate with top-tier scientists and engineers pushing the boundaries of genomic analysis.
• Competitive benefits, share options, and a dynamic startup environment.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Developer to work on building, maintaining, and optimizing scalable pipelines for large-scale genomics alongside algorithmic improvements and advances. The initial task for the role will be deploying our proprietary technology in trusted cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Google cloud, DNAnexus, Genomics England). The role will evolve beyond the initial task to best fit the candidate’s skills, interests and abilities aligned with the company's strategic goals; there is great scope for role development for somebody who is flexible, fast learning and interested/motivated in the startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage internal computational development projects relevant to the role.
• Develop and optimize computational pipelines and internal infrastructure.
• Deploy our proprietary genomics technology in cloud-based Trusted Research Environments (TREs).
• Manage large-scale population genomic and phenotypic datasets, ensuring compliance with data access and security regulations in TREs.
• Work closely with internal science teams (computational biology, software engineering, and data science) to integrate computational methods into production pipelines.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging tools, AI, best practices, and software relating to genomics and cloud environments. Engage with training offered by the company.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
• A degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Data Science, Bioinformatics or a related field.
• Strong programming skills, including Python. Experience with the Linux environment.
• An interest and motivation for working in a science, biology and technology company, and sharing our excitement for impacting medicine and therapeutics in a variety of diseases.
• Appetite to work in a fast-paced and often changing startup environment, independently at times, while effectively communicating and working closely within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
• Experience of cloud-based environments such as AWS, Google cloud, or even knowledge of TREs such as DNAnexus, LifeBit or similar platforms.
• Experience leading and managing your own projects.
• A PhD, or equivalent years of industry experience.
• Any experience with genomic datasets or human genomic analysis tools.
• Experience in designing and implementing pipelines and databases.
If you’re excited about working at the intersection of cloud computing, genomics, and AI-driven discovery, we’d love to hear from you!
