The Opportunity
As a Development Horticulturist you will:
Communicate project objectives, activities and outcomes, both verbally and written, to growers, industry bodies and other stakeholders.
Prepare reports and extension materials for industry, departmental and funding body clients as detailed within a communication strategy
Ensure collection, collation, and statistical analysis of field, survey and laboratory data.
Participate in and lead components of research activities in tropical fruit crops by applying relevant scientific methodology and technical practices at a high level.
Assist in the development of new project concepts and activities.
Maintain an active professional development program, and keep up to date with relevant research advances in tropical horticulture production.
Adhere to the Department's Code of Conduct, including the principles and practices of employment equity, ethical conduct and workplace health and safety.
What are we looking for?
There are some qualifications that we see as essential. you must possess:
A degree in Science, Horticulture or Agricultural Science from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent academic qualifications.
A current ‘C' class drivers licence is a requirement of this role.
You must also be prepared to work out of hours and to travel away from your base location from time to time as required by work. You will have the ability to work outdoors to conduct research trials in a tropical environment and preparedness to work with and handle chemical pesticides in the course of research trials.
You will have a keen eye for detail, great time management and effective problem solving skills. More than anything, you will have a positive attitude and make a great contribution to our team.
