Executive Council works to ensure effective strategic planning and coordinated policy development and communications across government, engages Albertans and the broader global community, and promotes a vibrant and innovative public service. In addition to policy, protocol, communications and Cabinet functions, Executive Council includes Intergovernmental and International Relations, which develops strategies on issues of importance to Alberta and Canada - with its international partners, clients, and stakeholders – to address challenges and grow opportunities. This unit also coordinates Alberta’s leadership and participation within the Canadian federation in pursuit of a federal system that best serves the needs of Albertans and Canadians.

Role Responsibilities
The Director, India Office is Alberta’s lead representative for trade, investment, advocacy, and talent attraction in India. Based in Mumbai, this long-term international assignment (four years) is an exceptional opportunity to shape Alberta’s economic interests in one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. This role reports to the Managing Director, IndoPacific (Hub), Singapore.

Your Role & Impact:


Strategic Leadership: Drive Alberta’s market access and investment attraction strategies, supporting priority industries such as oil & gas, agri-food, clean technology, life sciences, and education.
High-Level Advocacy: Represent Alberta’s interests with Indian and Canadian government officials, private sector leaders, and key stakeholders.
Market Intelligence & Expansion: Gather and analyze sector-specific market opportunities, facilitate Alberta’s export growth, and develop strategic partnerships.
Diplomatic Engagement: Lead Alberta’s advocacy efforts, ensuring coordinated messaging and impactful communication strategies.
Operational & Team Leadership: Manage Alberta’s New Delhi and Mumbai offices, overseeing budgets, strategy implementation, and a team of professionals.

Deep understanding of Alberta’s economic, political, and social landscape, alongside strong knowledge of government policies in Canada and India.

Exceptional communication skills in English, with fluency in additional Indian languages considered an asset.

Qualifications
University graduation in a field related to the position assignment, preferred degree with a focus in Business or Economics, supplemented by eight years progressively responsible experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. Preferred degree with a focus in International Business or Economics.

The location of the position is based outside of Alberta and Canada. Successful candidates must be Canadian Citizens who must be eligible to work internationally.

Final candidates will be required to undergo Top Secret Federal Security Clearance screening.

Successful candidates must provide clearance to be medically fit for service abroad.
This competition will be used to fill four-year contract full-time position, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
For Internal candidates, please note this is a contract position, not a secondment or temporary assignment. You must seek approval from your home Ministry to hold your base position for the 4-year term. These approvals must be in writing and signed off by the Deputy Minister for your base position.
