Reporting to the Registrar and Senior Director Strategic Enrolment Management, the Director, Student Conduct and Care provides leadership to a portfolio encompassing case management services, student conduct administration, human rights, ****** violence prevention and response, and student complaint resolution. This role also serves as the co-chair to the Behavioural Intervention Team ensuring a coordinated approach to student support and campus safety.

The incumbent provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Office, ensuring a commitment to community standards, accountability, and student well-being. This role upholds fair and equitable practices that support student learning while maintaining the rights and responsibilities of the Mohawk College community.

The portfolio is responsible for aligning with Mohawk College’s mission, values, and policies, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant legislative requirements. The incumbent leads strategic and programmatic initiatives, manages budget allocations, oversees ministry-mandated reporting, supervises staff, and directs the overall operations of this functional area.

What you’ll be doing:

Operational Leadership

Oversees cases involving students alleged to be in violation of the Student Code (Student Behaviour policy), harassment and discrimination (Student Human Rights policy), ****** violence (Sexual Assault and Sexualized Violence policy) and students electing to engage in a complaint process (Student Complaint procedures) in accordance with other college policies and procedures.
Engages alternative dispute resolution pathways and responses to encourage restorative and reconciliation practices.
Ensures that all students engaged in policy processes are treated equitably, inclusively, and fairly, in alignment with sector-specific best practices and the institution’s mission and values.
Manages staff and advises on, with the potential of leading, complex care or conduct related cases, in accordance with relevant policies and campus partners.
Assists in the coordination of care and service navigation for students with complex support needs and/or who are engaging in at-risk behaviours.
Co-chairs the Behaviour Intervention Team (BIT)
Chairs the ****** Assault and Sexualized Violence Support Task Force, providing strategy direction and leadership on matters pertaining to ****** violence prevention, awareness and education.
Oversees the development and implementation of educational programs on gender-based violence prevention and awareness.
Supports the coordination and collaboration with campus and community organizations to enhance outreach initiatives and resource awareness.
Leads the Death of a Student and Return to Study protocols alongside relevant campus partners
Maintains responsibility for the documentation, retention and compliance practices with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) within the scope of services.
Analyzes data to identify trends to inform policy, or process and operational changes.


College Partnership

Provides consultation services for staff, faculty and administration in need of conflict coaching and to aid coordinated care and response efforts.
Acts as the primary contact with Campus Security and Risk, Legal and Governance Services, providing leadership and expertise in managing complex care cases, offering procedural guidance, developing risk mitigation strategies, and shaping policy development.
Oversees all Ministry and College Board Reporting requirements.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of professional practice standards, including legal and regulatory changes affecting the scope of practice. This includes expertise in areas such as harassment and discrimination, human rights, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), ****** and gender-based violence prevention and response, student conduct administration, case management services, and behavioral intervention team standards.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with external organizations including social service agencies and protection services within the City of Hamilton in an effort to engage coordinated care efforts and strategic partnerships.
Maintains memberships in relevant organizations such as NABITA and CACUSS.

Financial, Human Resources and Operational Effectiveness

Leads the portfolio’s daily operations, human resources management, and overall strategic direction.
Fosters a workplace culture whereby staff are respected, motivated and valued, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services are in place and effective team collaborations.
Ensures the provision of professional development and competency-based training
Promotes a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, evaluating, training and development of staff for which incumbent is responsible.
Manages staff resources and departmental budget administration, including monitoring and projecting expenditures, while ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and the costs of new initiatives.
