Career Opportunity and Primary Roles / Responsibilities

We are looking for a Drone Ground Station Software Developer to design and implement cutting-edge ground control software for managing large fleets of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This role involves full-stack development, including intuitive, responsive user interfaces and scalable cloud-based backends, with an emphasis on concurrent drone operations, situational awareness, and mission control. You'll work closely with aerospace engineers, flight operators, and systems integrators to deliver reliable, mission-ready software.

The Drone Ground Station Software Developer objectives are:

Develop and maintain ground station software to control and monitor large-scale drone operations in real time.
Design user-friendly front-end interfaces for mission planning, telemetry visualization, and operator control.
Build and scale backend services on AWS to support real-time data streams, command execution, and mission logs.
Collaborate with flight software teams to ensure seamless drone-to-ground communication and command reliability.
Ensure all software meets aerospace-grade requirements for performance, usability, and fault tolerance.
Required Competencies

Experience in the aerospace, defense, or UAV sector.
Familiarity with drone communication protocols (e.g., MAVLink) and mission control concepts.
Knowledge of secure software design and aerospace compliance (e.g., DO-178C).
Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or AWS ECS.
Strong systems thinking, with attention to safety, performance, and reliability.
Strong proficiency in Java for backend development.
Experience with AWS cloud services including Lambda, S3, EC2, and API Gateway.
Solid experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue) for building responsive, intuitive UIs.
Understanding of real-time data handling, concurrency, and distributed systems.
Familiarity with UI/UX design principles for mission-critical operator interfaces.
Miscellaneous Requirements

Work can be done remotely.
For employees based in Montreal, the work model is hybrid (at least one day at the office).
The position might require travel to visit customers (in North America)
Knowledge of English is required to communicate and work with customers outside the province of Quebec. / La connaissance de l'anglais est requise pour communiquer et travailler avec nos clients situés à l'extérieur de la province de Québec.
