The opportunities we have available
The People Branch has the below opportunity currently available at the Executive Level 1 level on a full-time, ongoing basis within the Workforce Strategy and Capability team.
The Workforce Strategy and Capability team provides future-focused capability and capacity uplift of the department and its staff.
A merit pool will be established and may be used to fill vacancies in the People Branch as they arise over the next 18 months.
Assistant Director – People Capability
The People Capability team builds capability to develop and embed core, leadership and specialist skills. We are committed to developing and providing authentic, tangible and achievable capability development opportunities to build and embed a consistent and sustained culture of learning and development across the department. We offer a variety of learning opportunities with business partners through a curriculum of training courses, summits, conferences and programs for staff to implement the department’s Learning Strategy. As the Assistant Director, you will:
Effectively manage a team to deliver a schedule of capability building programs and outcomes for the Department.
Manage the development and implementation of initiatives to support the implementation of the department’s Learning Strategy and the Strategy Workforce Plan, the Capability Review and capability programs and activities.
Anticipate, identify, and respond to stakeholders needs and expectations to build capability through learning and development programs, professional coaching, guidance, advice and reporting.
Conduct regular evaluation and quality assurance of Learning and development programs, courses and processes to identify training needs and manage identified risks.
Build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
Manage the learning and development budget.

The successful candidates for these positions will have:
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in HR.
Sound understanding of relevant legislation, including but not limited to the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations and APS Commissioner’s Directions.
Experience in leading a small, diverse team to deliver outcomes.
The ability to provide quality advice and support to stakeholders using an honest, open and flexible approach and apply sound judgement and decision-making skills.
The ability to innovate and seek continuous improvement in relation to initiatives, systems and processes, and to think strategically.
The ability to operate effectively in an environment of competing priorities and tight deadlines, including the capacity to respond quickly to changes in requirements.
Collaborative and engaging business partnering style, with the ability to influence and advise.
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved.
Proven ability communicating to internal and external audiences as well as excellent verbal, written and analytical skills.
Having the ability to adapt communication styles to situational circumstances.
Excellent attention to detail.

Eligibility requirements
Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1+++ including:
Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
Health Assessment: the preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
Security Clearance: the successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.
