Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Employee & Labour Relations Specialist will be responsible for the management of employee relations and labour matters including interpretation of collective agreements, legislation, practices, and policies and providing support and guidance to staff, supervisors and managers regarding the interpretation of such. This position is responsible for promoting and supporting positive labour and employee relations. This position is also responsible for supporting and assisting with collective bargaining, grievance management, and policy development and review. Hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Act as a resource for internal stakeholders, including Human Resources Team, in such areas as collective agreements, employment legislation, performance management, and policy interpretation to ensure consistent application and practices are followed and consult with the Manager, Human Resources as needed.
Provide advice, guidance and support in areas such as employee relations, performance management, attendance, and leaves.
Administer and ensure adherence to the various collective agreements and work proactively with management and union leadership to develop solutions to workplace issues, resolve grievances and manage the grievance process.
Guide and advise employees and management on the interpretation of company policies, legislation and contract language to ensure consistent application and practices are followed.
Assist with the preparation and execution of formal proceedings such as Negotiations, Arbitrations, Mediations and Human Rights Tribunals.
Maintain compliance with employment legislation, benefit administration and provide recommendations for new approaches, policies and procedures to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of HR service delivery.
Lead various special projects, data analysis, audits, and report/survey preparation and make recommendations to Leadership.
Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances. Develops further training as needed.
Promote Human Resource process standardization and process improvement.
Act as a point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution.
Coordinate payroll administration that requires HR intervention.
Manage the investigation process for internal complaints.
Support Occupational Health with WSIB reports, claims and accommodations.
Lead the maintenance of the various Pay Equity plans.
Act as an ambassador for Erie Shores HealthCare and assist in promoting and sustaining the desired culture.
Abide, instill and demonstrate all provincial laws including privacy.
Other duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS
University degree or College diploma in Human Resources or Business Administration required.
Minimum 5 years of relevant Human Resources or Employee Relations experience in a unionized environment including conducting investigations and other employee relations responsibilities required.
CHRP designation preferred.
Previous experience working in a health care setting preferred.
Strong decision-making skills with ability to manage multiple projects at once
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, web-based software programs, and a strong knowledge of an HRIS system.
Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to manage and resolve conflict.
Possess strong learning orientation focused on providing a positive customer experience for stakeholders.
