Job Description - Warehouse Logistics Instructor

Purpose

Reporting to the Manager of Employment and Career Development and supported by the Employment Support Program Coordinators, the Instructor of Warehouse/Logistics is required to teach warehouse logistics to newcomers in Canada. The instructor is also responsible for enthusiastically and professionally facilitating computer classes and employment skills workshops to newcomers participating in the Employment Support Program at TIES.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver training in logistics and warehouse management to a high standard, developing innovative and participatory methods
Assist students in developing skills and obtaining knowledge targeted toward Warehouse/Logistics Services Jobs
Assess the students’ levels of English upon entry; develop appropriate language teaching lesson plans and assessment materials.
Assess the students’ levels of computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and typing speed) upon entry to determine the kinds of instruction and materials each student needs
Cover subjects including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite 2010 and keyboarding; business communication skills; effective job search skills; Canadian business culture; and soft skills expected in the workplace.
Set and convey classroom rules and expectations for the students
Critique and evaluate student performance and provide feedback for learning
Record student attendance and prepare weekly reports for management, update files when necessary
Participate in the recruitment process for the upcoming intake
Provide one-on-one counselling to the clients to support their employment search process
Demonstrate commitment to the mission, the goals, and the educational philosophy of TIES
Attend and participate in internal and external meetings of the organization
Be responsible for resources and books from Society’s library by following the library policy
Perform other related duties requested by the supervisors
Competencies

Knowledge

Knowledge of:

Warehouse industry specific language and trends
Logistics service jobs and trends
Warehouse health and safety regulations
Safety laws and the ability to teach Standard Operating Procedures
Canadian workplace practices
Job search strategies
Moderate to complex computer functions using MS word, Internet browser, and Outlook
Classroom teaching and management
Curriculum development, assessment design and lesson planning
Video Conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google meets, and learning management systems such as Google Classroom and/ or Moodle would be an asset.

Education and Experience

The successful candidate will have a degree in Education, or in Logistics Management, or an equivalent combination of teaching and warehouse/logistics experience. At least two years of teaching experience in a related field is also required. Experience in a not-for-profit organization would be considered an asset. English as a second language teaching experience is considered an asset.
