To support continued growth and ensure data accuracy and security across our systems, we are seeking a dedicated Database Specialist (Database Administrator) to manage and optimise our database infrastructure.
Job Summary
The Database Specialist will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, performance tuning, and security of Raytech’s business-critical databases supporting e-commerce operations, inventory and stock control, supplier and product data integration, and management reporting.
This position is essential in ensuring database availability, integrity, security, and performance, and will work closely with internal stakeholders to support business operations and system scalability.
Key Responsibilities
The Database Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
1. Database Administration & Maintenance
o Install, configure, administer, and maintain Raytech’s core database systems supporting:
§ Online sales / e-commerce platforms
§ Inventory and stock control systems
§ Supplier and product master data
§ Internal reporting and analytics
o Ensure databases operate reliably and efficiently in production environments.
2. Database Design, Performance & Optimisation
o Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server databases, including schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
o Monitor and optimise database performance, scalability, and availability through proactive tuning and capacity planning.
3. Backup, Recovery & Business Continuity
o Implement, schedule, and test database backup, restoration, and disaster recovery procedures.
o Maintain recovery documentation and ensure continuity of business operations in the event of system failure.
4. Data Security & Access Control
o Implement database security controls, including user access permissions, role-based access, encryption practices, and audit logging.
o Monitor and investigate database access activity to protect confidential business and customer information.
5. Monitoring & Troubleshooting
o Monitor database health, performance, and system alerts.
o Diagnose and resolve database issues affecting ordering, inventory accuracy, pricing, supplier data exchange, or reporting.
6. Data Integration & Reporting Support
o Support data extraction, transformation, and reporting requirements for management and operational teams.
o Assist with system integration and cloud-based database environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure), including data synchronisation with overseas suppliers.
7. Documentation & Standards
o Prepare and maintain database technical documentation, procedures, and data standards.
o Ensure compliance with internal policies and best practices for database operations.
Job Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Technology, or a related discipline; OR
At least 5 years of proven experience in database administration / database engineering / database management in a commercial environment.
In addition, the applicant must have:
Strong knowledge of database administration principles, including performance tuning, backup/recovery, and database optimisation
Understanding of database security principles and data protection practices
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong commitment to working independently and collaboratively within a team environment
