Are you ready to play a key role in shaping safe, reliable, and future‑ready facilities for our Hamilton community?

We’re looking for someone to plan and manage the delivery of technical facilities services across Hamilton City Council’s vertical asset portfolio. Your work will help ensure our buildings and infrastructure are fit for purpose, resilient, and ready to support the city’s growth.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the Facilities & Support leadership team to keep our building systems running safely, efficiently, and sustainably. You’ll provide technical advice to facility managers, support building compliance, and contribute to the ongoing development of our Corporate Facilities Asset Management Plan. You’ll also help shape and manage key programmes of work - from asset renewals to asbestos, painting, and condition‑assessment programmes and support the creation of business cases and project briefs that guide future investment.

Some of the key responsibilities for this role include:

Oversee the operation and maintenance of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and security systems.
Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support across Council facilities.
Ensure asset registers are maintained and accurate and condition assessments for technical systems are completed.
Ensure facilities comply with relevant legislation, codes, and standards (e.g. Building Act, Health and Safety at Work Act).
Support the procurement and management of service contracts for technical maintenance and upgrades.
Provide technical input into facility upgrades, renewals, and new builds.
Lead and support technical staff and/or contractors delivering services across Council facilities.
Qualifications

Qualifications and experience:

Tertiary qualification in engineering, building services, facilities management, asset management or a related discipline preferred.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role with a particular focus on leading technical facilities or asset management, preferably within local government or public infrastructure.
Strong understanding of building systems, asset management principles, and compliance frameworks.
Proven experience in contractor management and technical project support.
Experience in Programme/Project Management preferred.
Experience in managing budgets and reporting.
Proven record of working at Intermediate to Advanced level in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Experience working in a public sector or community-focused environment.
Familiarity with sustainability, energy efficiency, and climate resilience initiatives.
Proficiency in facilities management software and asset systems (e.g. SPM, IPS, or similar).
Qualities and attributes:

Excellent written and oral communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding of Te Ao Maaori in service delivery.
