General Kitchen Assistant
Job Description
To assist in the provision of food preparation and other kitchen tasks and to support the kitchen supervisor maintain effective and efficient running of the kitchen.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Floor based role which consists of a variety of activities and movements including walking, crouching, bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling and squatting.
Ability to withstand long periods on your feet to undertake the daily task.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the preparation and giving of nourishing meals
Preparation of food as required and as directed by Kitchen Supervisor
Ensuring dining room and trays are set up as required
Assist with serving of meals including morning and afternoon tea
Trays delivered to rooms using thermal heated trolley
Ensure reheated prepared food temperatures are recorded and are within acceptable temperature range
Observe safe food handling practices
Maintain a high level of hygiene and safety in the kitchen
Carry our cleaning duties as per the cleaning schedules to ensure a safe and hygienic workplace is maintained at all times
Complete signing sheets as required
Ensure temperature records are maintained
Actively participate as an effective member of the healthcare team
Establish effective relationships by ensuring open communication and liaison with all members of the healthcare team
Attend and be actively involved in staff meetings
Treat all residents, visitors and staff with respect and courtesy with strict regard to confidentiality
Maintain knowledge and adhere to company policies and procedures and the code of conduct
Manage resources, supplies and equipment effectively, effectively and safely
Manage and promote the use of products and resources in a cost-effective way
Ensure equipment is used safely and appropriately and is maintained in safe working order by reporting and defective items immediately
Report any maintenance requirements promptly in maintenance book
Health and Safety and infection control
Actively promote the minimisation of risk and harm occurring
Report any potential hazards/risks and faults immediately
Report all work related staff injuries/illness to the Facility Manager and Health and Safety Coordinator as soon as possible and any serious harm incidents immediately
Complete accident incident forms promptly and appropriately
Display commitment to maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff
adhere to all safety policies and procedures
Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate steps to be taken in an emergency including building evacuation procedures and actively participate in trail evacuations
Follow infection control policies and procedures minimising the risk of transmission and infections
Maintain a high standard of personal and professional hygiene
Ensure effective hand hygiene is performed and adherence to standard precautions as appropriate

Attend compulsory inservice education requirements of the company including food safety

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.50 – $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 12 per week
