The Graduate Client Accountant contributes to the delivery of high‑quality accounting and taxation services to our clients within the Client Accounting and Tax team. The role supports Client Managers, Estate Managers, and other internal stakeholders by preparing financial statements, taxation returns, and providing technical information related to trust and estate accounting.
This position offers the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in trust structures, personal client accounting, and compliance frameworks while working alongside experienced professionals in a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the role include:
Preparing financial statements and tax returns for allocated clients
Managing personal workflow using the team scheduling system to ensure agreed timeframes are met
Interpreting trust deeds, Wills, agency agreements, and other documentation to ensure accurate accounting treatment
Applying relevant legislation, including the Trustees Act, Administration Act, and Income Tax Act, during the preparation of accounts
Assessing beneficiary entitlements and distinguishing between capital and income distributions
Supporting the administration of charitable trusts, including compliance with Charities Services requirements
Understanding investment structures such as equities, financial arrangements, PIEs, and the FIF regime
Assisting Client Managers by providing clear, accurate information for client queries
Responding to accounting and tax‑related enquiries in a professional and timely manner
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Bachelor of Business/Commerce majoring in Accounting, or equivalent qualification
Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret financial information
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (intermediate to advanced)
Ability to learn new accounting software systems, experience using Xero preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage deadlines and work independently
Sound financial acumen and the ability to apply technical knowledge
Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to manage complexity
Collaboration and interpersonal effectiveness across diverse teams
