Job Description
Senior Security Engineer – Internet Protection Squad – Infrastructure Services
Location: ASB C:Drive, Albany, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland
Mō Mātou | About us
At ASB, we’re more than a bank, we’re a purpose-led organisation helping people, communities, and our environment thrive together. With a proud history and a clear vision to support New Zealanders in getting one step ahead, our work is guided by the values of Courage, Care, and Curiosity. We’re bold in challenging the status quo, we genuinely care about those we work with and serve, and we’re always exploring new ideas to improve how we work.
As one of Aotearoa’s most trusted banking partners, we offer the scale and stability of a large organisation, while recognising and valuing each person’s contribution. Your ideas, growth, and impact matter here and you’ll be supported to do meaningful work every day.
Mō te Tūranga | About the role
As a Senior Security Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the Internet Protection squad responsible for supporting and evolving ASB’s zero trust network and internet cyber security platforms. The squad is an important part of the wider Infrastructure Services platform team, delivering the bank’s critical infrastructure and systems to ensure its availability for our stakeholders and customers.
In the Senior Security Engineer role you will contribute across the full Infrastructure lifecycle, from hands-on operational support through to design and delivery of new capabilities, in an agile environment. You will leverage your skills in automation and scripting to optimise the squad’s activities across proxy, DLP and remote access technology systems. Working closely with engineers, squads, and stakeholders across the bank, you’ll bring advanced technical expertise, practical guidance, and a collaborative mindset to everything you do.
Key responsibilities
Provide advanced technical expertise for the design, implementation, and day-to-day operational support of proxy, DLP, and zero trust network solutions.
Actively contribute and drive continuous improvement through the automation of manual and repetitive tasks
Oversee design aspects to ensure the cohesive integration of new technologies and methodologies within existing systems
Effective knowledge sharing and uplifting security practices in the Internet Protection space
Develop and support integrations with other systems
Advocate best practices for the security products and technologies that the squad are responsible for
Ensure solutions meet security, risk, and control requirements
Ō Pūkenga | About you
You are someone who uses your advanced technical skills and knowledge to deliver secure, reliable services that make a real difference for customers. You enjoy working collaboratively and prefer a modern Infrastructure as code approach to automating tasks rather than completing them manually.
You bring initiative and practical problem‑solving to your work and are comfortable taking ownership within your role. You value working in a supportive team environment, share knowledge openly, and are willing to learn from others while contributing your own broad experience.
We’re looking for someone with:
10+ years’ experience in IT Systems, support and operations
5+ years’ experience in enterprise Infrastructure security with design, deployment, and managing proxy, DLP, and zero trust networks systems
Proven experience with enterprise security tools like Zscaler and ProxySG
Proven hands-on experience with scripting and automation tools like GitHub, Ansible, Terraform, and PowerShell to build, maintain, and optimise automated processes
Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure
Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and version control tools such as Git
Strong documentation and knowledge sharing skills
Architecture and solution design knowledge
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
Good understanding and experience of working using Agile principles.
Exposure to observability and monitoring tools such as the ELK stack Kibana
Broad experience across firewalling, IPS, DDoS, EPP, cloud infrastructure and services
Certification in relevant proxy, DLP, and zero trust network technologies
Te mahi ki ASB | Working for ASB
