Sustainable Projects Group (SPG) is seeking a full-time, permanent, Energy Analyst II, reporting to the Team Lead, Energy Consulting. In this role, you will use your technical expertise and creativity to deliver complex strategic reports, furthering SPG’s mission to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the built environment.

The position will be a combination of work-from-home and onsite work. Candidates must reside in the Edmonton greater area. Applications with cover letters will be prioritized.

Responsibilities

Analysis & report-writing

Perform site visits, collecting data including full lighting, water fixture, and mechanical equipment counts
Enter and analyze utility data
Evaluate building drawings, equipment schedules, and other materials to support building analysis
Create energy models using internal and external tools
Identify and quantify energy conservation measures
Compile findings into energy audits, and other strategic energy, greenhouse gas (GHG), renewables, and asset management reports, including building condition assessments
Other

Manage complex projects from award to closeout, including monitoring timelines, budgets, and deliverable quality
Maintain healthy relationships with clients, acting with professionalism, integrity, and honesty
Provide guidance and coaching to junior team members, including assisting with tasks, problem-solving/brainstorming, and reviewing work for technical accuracy
Lead the development of new, complex projects which do not have existing in-house standardized methodologies
Develop new and improve existing internal processes and in-house tools and templates
Complete other projects and tasks as assigned
Requirements

Experience

Post-secondary degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related fields include but are not limited to: energy management, engineering, environmental science, and construction
2 years of professional experience in building energy efficiency
Skill

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Excel skill
In-depth knowledge in building energy efficiency and best practices
Excellent written and verbal communication, with an emphasis on formal report writing
Excellent organization, including the ability to balance multiple ongoing projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
Ability to learn existing tools and processes quickly
Ability to exercise compassion, patience, and self-awareness to foster a healthy working environment
Ability to work independently under general supervision
Ability to work as a team player
Logistic

Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time within Canada, some weekend travel required, flight travel required
Ability to work on your feet for a regular, eight-hour shift
Valid driver’s licence
Access to a vehicle for use in commuting to site visits
Willingness to occasionally use personal cell phone for work purposes
Additional assets

Strong understanding of energy audits, GHG accounting, net zero pathways, or building condition assessments
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) designation
Experience with energy modelling software, such as RETScreen and eQuest
Project management experience
Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) or Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBSP) designation
P.Eng designation
