Environmental Health Officer
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Environmental Health Officer to ensure our local places and spaces remain clean, healthy, and sustainable.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct scheduled environmental health programs in line with legislation, including inspections of food premises, cooling towers, and onsite sewerage management systems.
Develop and implement environmental health strategies, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Facilitate environmental health education programs for the community, such as food safety seminars and sustainability initiatives.
Ensure compliance with NSW WHS Act 2011, WHS Regulation 2011, and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Management System.
Actively contribute to sustainability initiatives for Council and the community.
Complete allocated tasks efficiently and competently within designated timeframes.
Selection Criteria
Relevant experience and appropriate qualifications, in accordance with the essential requirements outlined in the position description.
Sound knowledge of, and experience in, current environmental health issues.
Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations, write correspondence, complex reports, grant applications, and award submissions.
Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to and understanding of WHS issues and EEO principles in the workplace.
Strong commitment to customer service.
Ability to work within a team environment.
Availability to work flexible working hours.
Performance Criteria
Ensure all scheduled environmental health programs are undertaken in accordance with the appropriate legislation: Greater than +5% of registered food premises inspected at least once per year, Greater than +5% of registered premises with cooling towers inspected at least once per year, Greater than +5% of registered premises where there is a risk of infection inspected at least once per year, Greater than +5% of onsite sewerage management systems inspected once per 3 years.
Facilitate appropriate environmental health promotion and education programs that address the needs of our community: 1 or more food seminars held per year, 1 or more other environmental health initiative conducted per year.
Implement actions and develop new initiatives to ensure Council and the community are moving towards sustainability. Ensure all allocated tasks are completed in an efficient and competent manner within the specified time frame. Meet the performance expectations outlined in Council's Performance Management System. Maintain a professional level of competency in all required duties and tasks. Successfully promote the image of Council as an efficient and professional service organisation. Ensure compliance with relevant legislative and policy requirements. Develop and implement a work plan effectively. Complete allocated tasks, reports, and correspondence within agreed timeframes.
