The office of Phillip Thompson OAM MP is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Electorate Officer A, with a focus on community engagement, based in the Herbert Electorate in Townsville, QLD.
This role would suit someone with proven experience in a community/stakeholder engagement role and who is excited by the opportunity of serving their community while playing a key role in the democratic process.
Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
generate and coordinate proactive community engagement activities including planning and execution of events, mobile offices and other campaign activities
maintain relationships with local community organisations and businesses and provide assistance with grant opportunities and identification
maintain an accurate community database
assist with issues campaigns in conjunction with the Media Adviser
assist with electorate and campaign events and activities, including outside normal office hours
photography/videography at events
daily management and triage of the Member’s email inbox and incoming mail (on a shared and rostered basis)
shared first point of contact for phone-calls and walk-ins to office
carry out constituent enquiries and case work including researching and preparing correspondence in response to constituent enquiries and portfolio matters
other duties as directed by the Member
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:
work experience in a related role
a strong understanding of the local community
experience in government/politics will be highly regarded
a keen interest in and understanding of Australian government and the parliamentary process
the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and meet competing deadlines
excellent written and oral communications skills
photography/videography skills
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1+84 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023 which include:
a commencing salary between $6+,04+ and $73,0+8 (plus superannuation) will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
an additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work
an employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
