The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit several Executive Assistants to fill temporary positions at the APS 4 classification level.

Current vacancies are in our Belconnen office for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension. As this is a personal support role to our Senior Executive Service officers, physical attendance in the office is required, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) may apply.

About the Executive Assistant role

Executive Assistants support ABS Senior Executive Service (SES) officers in managing and organising their day-to-day operations, liaising with senior ABS staff, senior government officers and CEOs, working closely with the other Executive Assistants and Executive Officers to achieve the desired outcomes.

We are seeking confident, motivated and professional Executive Assistants who can manage tight and often conflicting deadlines while providing high level administrative support with limited supervision. This position requires liaison and negotiation skills, plus well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Decision making ability and attention to detail are essential.

As the first point of contact for a SES officer, you will maintain high standards of professionalism and build strong relationships with key stakeholders. The successful candidates will need to be well organised, work well in a team and independently, and be able to deliver quality outputs within tight deadlines.

Demonstrated skills and experience working as an Executive Assistant would be an advantage, but not essential.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

being the primary point of contact for the Executive; building and maintaining positive relationships and facilitating effective communication and collaboration
coordinating aspects of the SES officer’s day to day work schedule including managing their diary, telephone, and email; monitoring current and emerging priorities to ensure deadlines are met
coordinating meetings and events, including bookings, setting up and collating and circulating papers, briefs and presentations
undertaking administrative tasks such as travel arrangements, financial reconciliation of credit cards and invoice acquittal.
