The Export Compliance Officer ensures that a company adheres to international trade regulations and export control laws, thereby protecting it against penalties and risks. Their responsibilities include managing export licences, conducting screenings, educating employees and providing guidance on international trade procedures
Your Tasks:
Ensure compliance with export and import regulations, including ITAR, EAR and CGP, as well as applicable international trade laws. Provide guidance on these regulations, including the development and administration of training for internal teams.
Maintain an internally focused educational and awareness campaign regarding all matters Export/Import Control related with the view of promoting the MTU Canada Internal Compliance Program answering questions from key stakeholders and establishing FAQ type information for internal users to consult.
Manage of the MTU Canada’s export/import control and licensing programs with Global Affairs Canada and other intergovernmental agencies in Canada, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of State related to the Company’s exports and imports permits and licenses required for the transfer of Aircraft Engines, equipment, parts, and technical data/technology.
Responsible for all internal and external reporting of the company's export permit control and import/export licensing activities, in accordance with the regulatory requirements established when the permit or licence was granted.
Ensures all controlled goods and technology are being transferred under valid permits and licenses issued by Global Affairs Canada and other applicable foreign Export Control regulations. (U.S. and EU)
Support the release of global shipments that have been blocked or flagged by the Global Trade Services (GTS) system implemented by MTU Canada in SAP. Conduct commodity jurisdiction and advisory opinion, as well as the classification of goods and tech data.
Proactively identify and resolve export control issues and develop risk mitigation strategies. Monitor changes in global trade regulations, recommending updates to company policies and procedures as necessary.
Collect and analyse compliance data to identify trends and potential cost savings/avoidance (e.g. trade agreements such as USMCA, and other opportunities), as well as internal and external charges. (aligned with the MTU Aero Engines Group best practices)
Conduct audits of import/export processes, maintain detailed compliance records, and investigate or resolve trade compliance violations, escalating issues as needed.
Review and verify the accuracy of import/export documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Provide guidance on how to solve issues relating to missing or incomplete information.
Update and maintain product classifications in SAP, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, including, HS codes and ECCNs. Audit part descriptions Export Control Classification and HS tariff codes to ensure they are consistent and accurate.
Conduct sanction party screening and due diligence processes for customers and business partners as well as manage End Use(r) Statements and the Know Your Customer process; Monitor the impact of current Canadian and international sanctions on MTU Canada's business.
Establish and facilitate operational and strategic working relationships with MTU Global Foreign Trade to optimise results for the department and the company.
Our Requirements:
Post Secondary Education in Logistics/Business Management or related areas
Post-Graduation/MBA desired
Minimum of 8 years experience in Export Controls/Trade Compliance in the aviation/aerospace industry
Advanced understanding of customs and export control regulations across multiple jurisdictions (e.g., GCP, ECL, ITAR, EAR, OFAC, EU export regulation).
Proven experience in managing licences and permits for commercial and military aviation programs, including the license and permits application platforms.
Experience dealing with foreign government defence programs and military aircraft operators
Ability to obtain and maintain the Canadian Controlled Goods Program clearance
Ability to work under stress in dynamic environment; Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and be proactive in owning projects and processes, working independently with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with an ability to identify potential risks and solutions.
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact well with a diverse group of Directors/Manages, colleagues and stakeholders
