Our client is a Corrugated Box supplier to major Blue Chip retailers in the UK. They are currently looking at a significant expansion of their management team with the appointment of a Factory Manager. Reporting to the Operations Manager you would be responsible for all aspects of what happens in the logistics and warehousing of the customers orders. A detailed description is shown below.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Factory Manager at our client based in Dartford. The Factory Manager will be responsible for day-to-day tasks related to production planning, quality control, production management, operations management, and manufacturing operations. They will oversee the manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency and excellence.
Key Responsibilities:Factory Duties (80%):
• Setting up the production lines on a daily basis to be ready for the team.
• Day-to-day compliance checks.
• Overseeing the loading and unloading of lorries.
• Health & Safety Compliance.
• Quality Control checks.
• Operating Forklift Truck (desirable but not 100% necessary).
Office Duties (20%):
• Scheduling employee rotas, appraisals, and holidays.
• Cost management and budgeting in relation to labour.
• Manage temporary labour on a day-to-day basis.
• Stock control and stock take.
• Facility Health & Safety checks.
• HR tasks.
Production Operations Management:
• Lead and supervise both production workers and agency staff.
• In-depth understanding of supply chain processes, inventory management, transportation, and warehousing.
• Develop production schedules to meet customer demand and monitor key metrics, adjusting and improving as necessary to meet targets.
• Perform Fork Truck work as needed.
Machine Repair and Maintenance:
• Conduct regular machinery inspections and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
• Set up and operate various types of machinery.
Training and Development:
• Train production workers on standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Produce and maintain training material and training matrix.
• Aid in solving equipment and machinery issues.
Continuous Improvement:
• Identify and implement process improvements, cost reductions, and waste elimination.
• Optimise production processes through experience and applying lean manufacturing principles.
• Ability to analyse data, forecast demand, and optimise inventory management.
• Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in logistics operations to avoid costly errors.
Safety and Compliance:
• Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and company policies.
• Conduct regular safety audits and identify any safety concerns you may have.
Packaging Workflow:
• Oversee the packaging process, starting from the intake of raw materials through to folding, banding, leaflet insertion, shrink-wrapping, re-palletising, labelling, and final dispatch preparation.
Candidate Profile:
• Proven experience in a similar managerial role.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, capable of inspiring and driving operations towards goals.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities. To be able to handle disruptions in the supply chain, production delays, or logistical challenges.
• Strong organisational abilities to manage multiple tasks, prioritise activities, and ensure smooth workflow across different departments.
• Excellent communication to coordinate between different departments.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, such as market fluctuations, new technologies, or unexpected disruptions in the supply chain.
• Forklift license desirable but not 100% necessary.
